1. Who we are
ProblemSum is made by Aeterna Solutions, an information technology firm based in Singapore (“we”, “us”, “our”). This policy explains how we handle personal data in the ProblemSum app for iPhone, iPad and Mac, and on this website, problemsum.app.
We handle personal data in line with Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (PDPA).
2. The ProblemSum app
We collect nothing
ProblemSum does not collect, receive or share any personal data. In particular:
- there is no account, sign-in or registration;
- the app contains no analytics, advertising or tracking;
- it asks for no permissions — not your location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone;
- it makes no network connections at all, so nothing can be sent from it.
What stays on your device
To work, the app keeps a small amount of information in its own private storage on your device:
- the name of each profile you create (a nickname works just as well) and, for each profile, how many questions have been attempted and how many were answered correctly;
- your most recent questions, with their answers and solutions.
This information never leaves your device and is never sent to us. You can rename or remove a profile at any time in the Profiles tab, and deleting the app deletes everything it has stored.
If you back up your device to iCloud or to a computer, the backup may include this information, as it does for most apps. Backups are handled by Apple or by your computer, and we cannot see them.
Sharing a question
The Share button passes the text of the current question to your device’s share sheet. It goes only where you choose to send it, and what happens to it then is covered by the privacy terms of the app or service you choose.
Buying the app
ProblemSum is sold through Apple’s App Store. Apple processes your purchase and does not give us your name, email address or payment details; we see only aggregated sales figures.
If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in your device’s settings, Apple may also give us crash reports and aggregated usage statistics, which do not identify you. You can change this at any time in Settings (on Mac, System Settings) under Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.

3. This website
No cookies, no analytics
This website sets no cookies, runs no analytics or advertising, and loads nothing from other companies — no fonts, videos, social media buttons or tracking pixels.
Server logs
Like almost every web server, ours keeps a log of the requests it receives. Each entry records the IP address the request came from, the date and time, the page requested, the address of the page that linked to it, and the description your browser gives of itself (its “user agent”). We use these logs only to keep the website running and secure, and they are deleted automatically after 14 days.
Cloudflare
This website is delivered through Cloudflare, which protects it from attacks and helps its pages load quickly. Because Cloudflare carries the connection between your browser and our server, it processes your IP address and the technical details of each request, and it may receive a report from your browser if a page fails to load. Cloudflare also hides our email address from spam robots: a small script it adds to our pages, served from this website, shows the address in your browser. Cloudflare does all this on our behalf, as described in Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy.

Links to the App Store and other websites take you to pages we do not control, where those websites’ own privacy policies apply.
4. When you email us
If you write to [email protected], we receive your email address and whatever your message contains. We use them only to reply to you and to fix any problem you report. We keep correspondence only for as long as we need it for that, and we will delete it sooner if you ask us to.
5. Children
ProblemSum is made for primary-school children, and it collects no personal data from them — or from anyone else. A profile needs nothing more than a name, and a nickname works just as well.
If you are a parent or guardian and your child has emailed us, contact us and we will delete the message.
6. Sharing and selling
We do not sell, rent or trade personal data. We share it only as described in this policy — with Cloudflare, to deliver this website — or where the law requires us to.
7. Your rights
Under the PDPA, you may ask us what personal data we hold about you and how we have used it, ask us to correct it, or withdraw your consent to our using it. For the app, the answer is always the same: we hold none. For this website and for email, write to our data protection contact at [email protected] and we will reply within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Commission.
8. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update this page and the date at the top. If ProblemSum ever needs to collect any data, this page and the app’s App Store listing will say so before that version of the app is released.
